Using an interactive workshop
format, the unique issues of working with immigrant victims will
be addressed. Practical strategies for collaborating with
immigrant communities, federal agencies, such as the Immigration
and Naturalization Service and the State Department, and
understanding legislation, specifically the Violence Against
Women Act and the Trafficking Act of 2000, will be highlighted.
The audience will be encouraged to discuss their experiences
with assisting battered immigrant women, victims of trafficking
and victims of politically motivated torture. The workshop
presenter, the former head of the Special Projects Division of
the Office for Victims of Crime, will also discuss possible
funding options for programs working with immigrant victims.
