Abstract:

Each year domestic violence by police results in death or serious injury to victims across the nation. For too many years, police departments were slow to acknowledge or respond to this insidious problem until it was too late. However, the International Association of Chiefs of Police--working with law enforcement, prosecutors, victims, advocates and other criminal justice professionals--have developed practical, pro-active intervention strategies and model policies that have proven to be effective.

This session will focus on methods to effectively address police officer perpetrated domestic violence while helping victims and potential victims.
