This is a multi-media presentation given by Dr. George McClane, an emergency medicine specialist, and Assistant City Attorney Gael B. Strack, a veteran domestic violence prosecutor. Together, the instructors cover the following areas:
  • The findings from a study of 300 misdemeanor attempted strangulation cases
  • The medical aspects of strangulation
  • The legal aspects of investigating and prosecuting attempted strangulation cases
  • Practical tips for all professionals handling strangulation cases
  • Using experts in court

 The course objectives are to:

  • Increase the awareness of the lethality of attempted strangulation
  • Increase the identification of the subtle signs and symptoms of a strangulation victim
  • Improve the documentation of evidence for attempted strangulation cases
  • Increase the prosecution of strangulation cases
