Catherine Stephenson, DDA, San Diego, CA

         
     Cathy Stephenson has been a prosecutor for 18 years. She is the former Chief of the San Diego District Attorney’s Office Family Protection Division which prosecutes child abuse, and domestic violence cases.
 
Cathy has been prosecuting child abuse, child homicide, domestic violence, and sexual assault cases since 1986. She has been active locally with the Metro Inter-Agency Task Force, the Navy Family Advocacy Coordinating Council, and the Child Fatality Committee. Cathy also has served on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Community Child Abuse Coordinating Council. She also chaired the Child Victim-Witness Protocol Task Force.
 
Cathy is a member of the San Diego Sexual Assault Response Team Systems Review Committee. At the state level, Cathy is a member of the California District Attorney’s Association Sexual Assault Committee and the Legislative Committee. She has also been appointed by the Governor to the Children’s Justice Act Task Force. In addition she serves on the Medical Protocol Committee of the Office of Criminal Justice Planning.
 
Cathy also lectures nationally on the subjects of interviewing child witnesses, presentation of expert witness testimony, charging and sentencing, closing argument, child death review teams and protocol development. Cathy is a member of the faculty for the National Center for Prosecution of Child Abuse.
 
Currently Cathy is the Chief of the Central Pretrial Division where she supervises the prosecution of felony cases. Cathy also serves as the District Attorney’s Adult Sexual Assault Crimes Liaison and coordinates the sexual assault prosecution training and case review for the office.
