Gwen Wright, Director, Bureau of Health and Human Services

         
     Gwen Wright is the Director of the Bureau of Health and Human Services for the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence where she has oversight of several programs, including mental health, substance abuse, school, rural, social services and child welfare. With the Office since 1993, her most recent position was Director of Community Coordination. Her previous positions have included Project Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse Project, where she designed and delivered cross training programs to domestic violence programs and substance abuse programs. In addition Ms. Wright was Director of the Child Welfare Project where she was responsible for design and delivery of the training program that continues to be used today. Prior to joining the staff of OPDV, Ms. Wright spent six years as a consultant with the Office, providing training to various professional groups, including Employee Assistance coordinators, Department of Social Services staff, criminal justice and health care personnel.
 
Ms. Wright has held numerous positions in the domestic violence field. She is the former Executive Director of the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, a statewide grassroots advocacy group. There she coordinated statewide legislative activities, organized regional domestic violence efforts, participated in numerous policy discussions with state lawmakers and made dozens of media appearances, both locally and nationally.
